Sadly we have to say farewell to our good friend Mick, who lost his battle with illness on the Wednesday the 21st of October 2015. You can read Mick’s Obituary here.
Mick lived for the natural world that he inhabited. Birds, all birds played a huge part in his life but his heart was given to birds of prey, especially harriers. For decades he was a driving force monitoring and protecting raptors across North Yorkshire; however his reputation spread well beyond the North Yorkshire borders. He was an inspiration to both young and experienced Raptor Workers alike and always ready to share his experience amongst his peers.
Mick originally joined NERF as a member of the North York Moors Merlin Group but he quickly realised that the vast tract of land south of the North York Moors National Park was not represented on the Forum. That issue needed to be addressed and he took it upon himself to form a new Raptor Study Group and the South Ryedale RSG was born.
Mick made a tremendous contribution to NERF, as he did for many conservation groups, and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Our thoughts and sympathies are with Helene and his family at this difficult time.
