Suspicious death of Hen Harrier ‘Rowan’

It is with great concern that NERF members have learnt of the suspicious death of one of this year’s Hen Harrier chicks. ‘Rowan’ a male chick ringed and satellite tagged at Langholm has been found dead in Cumbria on NERF’s western border on 22 October. The bird was being tracked by the Hawk & Owl Trust who had funded the tag as part of joint venture with NE.

The bird has been subject to a post-mortem and whilst the results of the examination are unknown HOT have made it clear, in their press release, that the matter has been reported to Cumbria Police for investigation.

NERF will make a further comment when the outcome of that  investigation is known. In the intervening period we would urge anyone with any information to contact Cumbria Police.
